Oracle HTTP Server CVE-2026-21962: Urgent Patch Checklist
August 24, 2026
Oracle HTTP Server and Oracle WebLogic Server Proxy Plug-in administrators should treat CVE-2026-21962 as an urgent maintenance item: CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on August 24, 2026. Apply the current Oracle security update available through Oracle Support, keep management access limited to approved administrators, and verify the normal proxy service after the change.
Why this needs prompt attention
CISA’s KEV catalog lists CVE-2026-21962 for Oracle HTTP Server and the Oracle WebLogic Server Proxy Plug-in as actively exploited. CISA’s entry calls for vendor mitigations or discontinuing use when mitigation is unavailable. The Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory for January 2026 identifies the affected proxy plug-in releases as 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, and 14.1.2.0.0; the IIS plug-in is affected at 12.2.1.4.0.
This guide stays on defensive maintenance and service verification. It does not describe the technical mechanism behind the issue or provide testing instructions.
Who should act
- Teams operating Oracle HTTP Server or the WebLogic Server Proxy Plug-in in front of application workloads.
- Hosting, platform, and middleware teams that maintain Oracle Fusion Middleware components.
- Organizations with proxy services exposed to the internet, shared networks, or broad administrative access.
Safe patch checklist
- Inventory Oracle HTTP Server and WebLogic Server Proxy Plug-in installations, including the installed release, service owner, deployment role, and external exposure.
- Confirm the normal maintenance-window recovery plan and the service validation owner before modifying production software.
- Review Oracle’s January 2026 Critical Patch Update Advisory and obtain the applicable vendor fix through the supported Oracle Support process.
- Apply the update through Oracle’s supported maintenance procedure. Do not assume that a general WebLogic update covers separately deployed proxy plug-ins.
- Keep administrative and management access limited to approved administrators and trusted management networks during and after the maintenance window.
- After updating, verify expected proxy routing, approved application access, monitoring, certificates where applicable, and normal error reporting.
- Review recent administrative changes and service logs through the usual operational process, then record the completed maintenance and remaining follow-up work.
Plan the maintenance window
Coordinate the update with the owners of the applications behind the proxy. Tell stakeholders when short service interruption or routing changes are possible, which normal service checks will be completed, and who will confirm the result. Keep unrelated application, operating-system, database, or network changes out of the same window unless they have been evaluated together.
