What You’ll Need:
- A Dell Force10 S4810P switch
- A console cable or network access to the switch
- Terminal application (like PuTTY for Windows or Terminal for macOS) or SSH client
Steps:
- Connect to your Dell Force10 S4810P switch: Use a console cable or SSH to connect to your switch. (Refer to the previous tutorials for detailed instructions on how to do this.)
- Check the current firmware version: Once you’ve connected to your switch, type
show version
at the command line and press Enter.
The resulting output will display a lot of information about your switch, including its firmware version. This will typically be shown in the format X.Y.Z, where X, Y, and Z represent the major, minor, and patch versions of the firmware, respectively.
Example of a firmware version display:
FTOS: Version 8.3.16.3
In this example, the major version is 8, the minor version is 3, and the patch version is 16.3.
- Compare your firmware version with the latest version: Visit the Dell website and check the latest available firmware for your Dell Force10 S4810P. You may need to enter your switch’s service tag to get the correct firmware. Compare the version number on the website with the version number displayed on your switch.
If the version number on the website is higher than the version number on your switch, a firmware upgrade is available.
