How to Install WordPress Manually in cPanel installation tutorial showing setup, verification, SSL, backups, and first-hour checks

cPanel File Manager and MySQL Databases is a good WordPress installation path when it matches the host and future maintenance plan. This method is best for clean installs where you want direct control over files, database, and configuration.

Audience: site owners and support teams who need a manual fallback when one-click installers are unavailable. Before installing, decide who owns the site, where backups live, how updates happen, and what will happen if the first plugin or theme choice breaks the site.

Before install

  • Download WordPress only from WordPress.org.
  • Create or identify the correct document root.
  • Create a database, database user, and strong database password.
  • Confirm PHP version, extensions, and SSL.

Install steps

  1. Upload the WordPress archive to the target folder in File Manager.
  2. Extract the files and make sure the WordPress files are in the correct document root.
  3. Create the database and assign the database user with appropriate privileges.
  4. Open the domain in a browser and complete the WordPress installer.
  5. Set the site title, administrator account, and email.
  6. Remove leftover zip files and check permissions.

Post-install verification

Check the home page, wp-admin, Settings > Permalinks, media upload, email sending, SSL, and whether backup jobs exist.

Also confirm public pages return 200, the dashboard loads over HTTPS, the administrator email can receive password resets, updates are visible, and a backup exists before you start building heavily.

Install risks

  • Leaving the WordPress files one folder too deep is a common mistake.
  • Public zip files and temporary files should be removed.
  • Database credentials should not be reused across unrelated sites.

Backup and rollback planning

A new WordPress site still needs a rollback plan. Create the first backup before installing large themes, builders, ecommerce extensions, membership tools, LMS plugins, or custom code. If this install is for a customer, document the host, login ownership, backup location, update policy, and launch checklist.

Fix I.T. Phill recommendation

Use cPanel File Manager and MySQL Databases when it gives you the cleanest path to updates, backups, SSL, and support. Keep the install lean, verify it publicly, and connect it to the backup, restore, and migration guides before the site becomes important.
